US Army Small Arms Trainer Delivering a "Fair Fight"
Solution
Designed to meet the small arms training requirement of the US
Army, EST 2000 allows training of marksmanship, squad tactical and
close-range shoot/don't shoot techniques, as well as small arms
weapons skills. The customer required that this training system
have the capability to recognize entities obscured, yet not shielded
from gunfire, by soft cover - such as bushes and tall grass. It
was essential that the application perform such that the runtime
engine could support this feature and also highlight areas of soft
cover within a scene upon command from the instructor.
MultiGen Creator's hierarchy controls made it possible for EST
2000 designers to group the terrain elements into clusters, which
maximized rendering performance. This control of the database hierarchy
and slice tools proved instrumental in getting the performance needed
from the terrain files.
