This is a scene from a project undertaken by Antycip for
the UK's largest housing developer. The project entailed
generating a realistic representation of the apartments and to
give an accurate representation of the surrounding buildings
and terrain to provide an accurate view from every balcony.
The application was used to visualize, promote and sell the
individual apartments. A model of the interior of one of the
apartments was also developed so purchasers could walk through
the floor plan in their own time.
The database was developed using site plans and AutoCAD
elevation data, which were imported into MultiGen Creator.
Unique photographic data and site materials from the site were
used for texturing. The data for the model of the apartment
interior was sourced from brochures of fixtures and fittings
and physical items. The Vega API was used to generate moving
objects and various special effects and scene content. The
application runs on a standard Intel® Pentium® III PC
workstation equipped with an nVIDIA® GeForce3
graphics card.
Realtime 3D visualization has opened up a whole new
dimension for this industry, not only as a sales aid but also
for building design and development, planning applications and
environmental impact studies. Customers have commented on the
extreme flexibility and ease of use of the application
compared to traditional scale models and rendered
walkthroughs. It also gives customers confidence that what
they are seeing is what they will get, even before the
development is finished.
