Realtime Urban Simulation with GIS

Virtual City Marunouchi shows a fusion between 3D and GIS which will be widely used in the future. It provides the capabilities to both fly-through and walk-through the Marunouchi area of Tokyo, one of the city centers of Tokyo neighboring the Tokyo terminal station. The area of Virtual Marunouchi ranges approximately 2.5km by 2km, which are texture-mapped with IKONOS photo-imaga data (provided by Mitsubishi Corporation). Virtual City Marunouchi includes the display of attribute data such as building names, switching of fly-through to walk-through by clicking a highlighted street, selection and placement of buildings in libraries, links buildings and their related internet homepages by clicking the building.

The application was built using both MultiGen Creator and Vega. The target platform is a Windows NT workstation.
