This scene is part of a database built by Primary Image and Reality Modelling as part of a research and development programme.
Helicopter-flying applications require uniquely complex databases, because they require high-fidelity terrain features for low-level flying training maneuvers where the viewpoint is relatively close to the ground, as well as the large-area database paging and image display processing for simulated high flight. The database is also designed for viewing through multiple windows including below- and above-vehicle views.
The database and models were built using the MultiGen-Paradigm Creator suite of database tools. These tools are easy to use and offer a wide range options that allow scene creation for land, sea and air applications in a fast and cost-efficient way. Support for transparencies and articulations, for elements such as helicopter rotor blades, were particularly useful to Primary Image.
This database runs at 1600 x 1200, at 60Hz with 4 sub-pixel anti-aliasing and requires an immense texture memory footprint due to the number of trees, helicopters and railings needed for the application. This can only be achieved using high performance, PC-based image generator solution like Primary Image's Fabriano.
