These images are from a visual database developed by the BAE SYSTEMS Simulation Group. The database is used for synthetic environment development, human machine interface prototyping and flight simulation. Because the database has a variety of uses, BAE SYSTEMS had to create a single database that could provide high fidelity scenes at low, medium and high altitudes. At the same time, their customers demanded a runtime environment capable of maintaining an update rate of 30Hz or greater. This was achieved using a combination of MultiGen Creator Pro, Creator Terrain Bundle, Vega Prime and Blueberry3D Terrain Editor software, as well as BAE's own Vega Prime-based C++ API, VERVE.
The combination of these software solutions delivered unprecedented realism at low altitudes without sacrificing the ability to use the same database for high altitude applications. In addition, this software combination provided a robust run-time environment and a way to integrate Blueberry3D databases with standard OpenFlight terrain and models.
