Lights and Light Systems
FlightIG's Navigation and Signal Lighting provides light points,
light systems (aggregations of light points), and signals (which
can create complex sequencing of lights), as well as a large library
of standard FAA and military lighting systems. Standard light point
types include runway edge and centerline lights, taxiway edge and
centerline lights, and approach lights. Standard lighting systems
include military and civilian airport beacons, Aldis lamps, two-,
three- and T-bar VASIs, PAPIs, and several types of approach lighting
systems (ALSF-2, MALS, MALSF, MALSR, and SSALR) with sequenced flashing
lights and REILs. A FLOLS is supported for carrier operations or
field carrier landing practice. VASIs and PAPIs have correct horizontal
and vertical arcs of visibility and transition regions.
Light point brightness is computed as a function of true range,
fog punch-through, and the intensity of the associated light point
type. Light points can be omni-directional, bi-directional, or have
any specified horizontal and vertical arcs of visibility.
FlightIG's Light Lobes simulate ownship landing lights or searchlights.
Light lobes can be varied in intensity and shape to simulate the
design-basis aircraft.
