Relationship Brings Advanced Simulation Functionality and Performance to Sun's 64-bit Solaris 8 Operating Environment ORLANDO, Fla. -- I/ITSEC CONFERENCE -- November 27, 2001 - Sun Microsystems, Inc. today announced MultiGen-Paradigm's Vega Prime software toolkit for realtime 3D application development on Sun's 64-bit Solaris 8 Operating Environment, Sun's award-winning, leading operating system for network servers and workstations. Vega Prime is a cross-platform, extendable and scalable development environment that includes MultiGen-Paradigm's advanced low-level scene graph (VSG), as well as a high-level abstraction API, delivering a wide range of customizable optimization and multi-level functionality. The combination of Multigen-Paradigm's Vega Prime software and the Sun SPARC/Solaris Operating Environment gives military, government and commercial simulation customers a cost-effective alternative to deploy high-performance, realtime 3D visual simulation applications, backed by one of the world's leading vendors for integrated software and hardware solutions. The announcement was made today at the I/ITSEC conference, which promotes innovation and cooperation among the armed services, industry leaders and government agencies. The news is expected to contribute to the growth of the visualization and simulation markets overall by giving customers the ability to develop and deploy comprehensive realtime 3D applications on an affordable and scalable platform. The Vega Prime software environment enables rapid creation and deployment of realtime 3D applications that give users a viable alternative to costly, and sometimes dangerous, decision-making exercises. With availability on Sun's fully compatible end-to-end product portfolio -- from $1,000 workstations to $1 million SPARC/Solaris servers -- Vega Prime software users will also benefit from Sun's availability, reliability and better price/performance, compatibility and scalability. Sun offers customers better total cost of ownership through easier system management and the ability to grow quickly and seamlessly as necessary. "With the availability of Vega Prime on the SPARC/Solaris platform, Sun and MultiGen-Paradigm are driving innovation and helping to change the economics of the visualization and simulation markets," said Robbie Turner, vice president of Client and Technical Market Products at Sun Microsystems, Inc. "Sun's history of providing cost-effective, reliable end-to-end solutions means that MultiGen-Paradigm's robust technology now will be available to more users for less money. Sun's workstations, servers and professional-level graphics have long served the needs of these customers, and our 64-bit architecture will provide the compute power necessary for even the most demanding 3D applications." "The new architecture behind Vega Prime will allow hardware vendors like Sun to differentiate themselves from one another because their focus can now be exclusively on functionality at the hardware level," said Chris Hawkins, vice president of sales and marketing for MultiGen-Paradigm. "This will benefit the end user, and the entire visual simulation community, because greater hardware functionality will enable increased application performance." Pricing and Availability
