MULTIGEN-PARADIGM ANNOUNCES VEGA PRIME

Company re-invents Vega product line to meet changing realtime 3D application development and deployment requirements

Orlando, Fla.-November 26, 2001 - Today at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation & Education Conference (I/ITSEC), MultiGen-Paradigm, Inc., the leading provider of realtime 3D software solutions, announced Vega Prime™, the next generation of the Vega product line. Vega Prime is a cross platform, extendable, and scalable development environment that includes MultiGen-Paradigm's Vega Scene Graph™ (VSG), an advanced low-level scene graph, as well as a high level abstraction API which delivers a wide range of customizable optimization and multi-level functionality. This announcement is associated with MultiGen-Paradigm's new corporate strategy introduced today that marks their response to the shifting requirements of the visual simulation industry.

Vega Prime features a platform independent, customizable, C++, plug-in based architecture providing users with greater flexibility in creating visual simulation applications than ever before. Vega Prime also includes LynX Prime, an extensible, cross platform GUI configuration tool re-designed to facilitate the rapid creation, modification, and configuration of Vega Prime application development. Vega Prime's single source infrastructure allows user's to develop and deploy applications on multiple platforms without modification to the code.

"Vega Prime is the result of many years of experience in both development of COTS tools, as well as turnkey simulation and programs development," said Christian Cole, product manager for MultiGen-Paradigm. "Users will see dramatic and consistent improvements in Vega Prime that respond directly to their needs. The flexibility provided within the Vega Prime infrastructure allows for maximum efficiency, optimization, and customization for the widest possible range of requirements."

Vega Prime's toolkit approach provides for powerful COTS application specific optional module availability allowing mix and match functionality as needed for the specific requirements of the application. Vega Prime's extensible plug-in infrastructure also allows developers to create their own application specific development modules for re-use.

Vega Prime also impacts MultiGen-Paradigm's professional services offerings. FlightIG, from MultiGen-Paradigm, creates custom turnkey image generators for fast jet and helicopter flight simulators, will provide significant savings to their users.

"The introduction of Vega Prime, now enables FlightIG users to select hardware platforms independently of the run-time software, allowing them to select a price point and image quality matched to budgets and performance requirements," said Stephen Gersuk, vice president of professional services for MultiGen-Paradigm. "Multiple copies of FlightIG can be used in a single simulator-for out-the-window image generation, sensor simulation, stealth viewers, instructor stations, and brief/debrief stations-all having a common host interface and rendering the same databases, minimizing integration cost and maximizing correlation."

Numerous hardware vendors and MultiGen-Paradigm partners have expressed support of the introduction of Vega Prime.

Evans and Sutherland
"Evans and Sutherland and MultiGen-Paradigm have had a long standing relationship in supporting each others products, and we will continue this relationship with MultiGen-Paradigm's introduction of Vega Prime," said Jeff Kirk, vice president and general manager of E&S's PC Sim Division. "Vega Prime will expose most simulation features available with simFUSION, including FLOD, Sensors, Ownship lights and GP."

Kirk also remarked, "Customers expect seamless operation between the run-time and IG platform. By working closely with MultiGen-Paradigm's engineers we are ensuring this goal is achieved. Vega and simFUSION are recognized product leaders in the visual simulation industry. Going forward, plug-n-play compatibility will enable both our flagship products to maintain their leadership positions by enabling the highest fidelity visuals possible. Vega Prime is a large step forward in the right direction."

Quantum 3D
"Vega Prime is particularly significant because it is crafted from the ground up to support the unique capabilities of a range of platforms, including Quantum3D's AAlchemy, Obsidian nV and Graphite PC-IGs," said Ross Q. Smith, Quantum3D co-founder and vice president of sales and marketing. "As a result, Vega Prime users benefit from all of the usability features that Vega and its optional modules are famous for, and they also can take advantage of the full range of features provided by our family of PC-IGs to meet their particular application needs. We commend MultiGen-Paradigm's efforts to continually advance product performance and enable their partners to differentiate their compatible offerings."

SGI
"MultiGen-Paradigm is a key partner for providing complete IG Solutions based on SGI technology, and we are very excited to have Vega Prime supported on our IRIX platform," said John Burwell, senior director of government and defense industries for SGI. "MultiGen-Paradigm's innovation in graphics software and continued support of Open Standards will help customers quickly develop high performance applications. Vega Prime will integrate seamlessly with our current line of products and will enable our customers to leverage hardware features and capabilities to meet the industry's most demanding requirements."

Sun Microsystems
"Vega Prime provides a path for users to deploy on the Solaris platform by providing familiar tools with the features and performance that meet their requirements," said Robbie Turner, vice president of Client and Technical Market Products for Sun Microsystems, Inc. "The combination of MultiGen-Paradigm's software and the Sun Solaris platform offers this market alternative, high performance, 'commercial-off-the-shelf' solutions. The visualization and simulation markets will continue to grow at a quick pace for Sun as we deliver cost-effective solutions that meet the needs of customers today."
