FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MetaFlight file format enables realtime awareness of visual database structure Orlando, Fla.-November 26, 2001 - Today at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation & Education Conference (I/ITSEC), MultiGen-Paradigm, Inc., the leading provider of realtime 3D software solutions, announced MetaFlight, a formal database description that increases the scope of OpenFlight, the industry file format for visual databases. This announcement is associated with MultiGen-Paradigm's new corporate strategy introduced today that marks their response to the shifting requirements of the visual simulation industry. MetaFlight describes the organization and structure of visual simulation databases using a high-level data model. This description, or "meta-data", ensures more efficient communication between database content and Vega Prime, or other runtime systems, to facilitate smarter loading and realtime database management. MetaFlight works as a complement to MultiGen-Paradigm's OpenFlight, but goes a step further by identifying the organization and structure of the many datasets that compromise a complex database. "MetaFlight represents a more intelligent way to describe the complex information stored in visual databases. It is simpler to integrate yet yields greater performance and more predictable results," said Dan Brockway, director of database products for MultiGen-Paradigm. "MultiGen-Paradigm's new product offerings also take full advantage of MetaFlight. For example, a MetaFlight file published from Creator Terrain Studio can be read by Vega Prime or a FlightIG application." MetaFlight also provides seamless integration and usage because it is a cross-platform, open file format based on XML. Any MetaFlight document is therefore self-describing and can be parsed and validated by any XML compliant application.
