FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MULTIGEN-PARADIGM ANNOUNCES SITEBUILDER 3D ORLANDO, Fla. - Nov. 27, 2000 -Today at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC), MultiGen-Paradigm, Inc., the leading developer of realtime 3D solutions, announced SiteBuilder 3Dï, a new 3D geographic information systems (GIS) product. As an extension to ESRI's popular ArcView GISï desktop mapping program, SiteBuilder 3D effortlessly transforms 2D map data into realistic and fully-interactive 3D environments allowing users to conduct virtual fly-throughs while simultaneously tracking their position in ArcView. Few tools exist today that can facilitate the simple creation of 3D worlds from a GIS program, but SiteBuilder 3D makes this process simple without requiring high-level technical or 3D modeling expertise. These realtime capabilities are also the same visualization techniques that are used by MultiGen-Paradigm in high-end flight simulators, driving simulators and realtime games. SiteBuilder 3D can rapidly generate a 3D terrain skin directly from common elevation data sources, including digital elevation models and contour maps. These terrain skins are then draped with high-resolution aerial photography, satellite imagery or any ArcView map. Point, line and polygon features are projected onto the 3D terrain with 3D models and textures that are supplied by SiteBuilder's model library. Once the 3D scene is created, the user can conduct virtual fly-throughs or walk-throughs in realtime using a computer mouse as a pointing device. Clouds, fog and time-of-day options significantly increase the realism of the 3D scene. By viewing GIS data in realtime 3D, SiteBuilder 3D gives the user a deeper understanding of scale, proximity and view impacts that are very difficult to interpret from 2D maps. "The ability to quickly create a realtime 3D scene directly from your map data significantly extends the power of ArcView GIS," said Jon Zucker, Urban Simulation/GIS Market Manager at MultiGen-Paradigm. "Now urban planners, military analysts, engineering firms and natural resource managers can easily view their data in 3D, making their GIS applications more compelling." "Landowners frequently struggle to interpret two-dimensional maps, especially for projects involving complex terrain and structures," said Chuck Donley, Land Planner at Donley & Associates, Inc. and SiteBuilder beta user. "SiteBuilder provides an essential tool to assist in assessing the visual impact of proposed development projects." At this year's AEC Systems 2000 show, SiteBuilder 3D won CADENCE Magazine's ShowStopper award. While only in prototype at the time, the product was recognized for its innovation and ability to define the emerging 3D GIS market. Pricing and Availability SiteBuilder 3D is expected to ship Spring 2001 and will be priced at $1,995. Please check the MultiGen-Paradigm Web site at http://www.multigen.com for details.
