FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Long Beach, Calif. - October 22, 2001 - MultiGen-Paradigm, Inc., a pioneer in the field of urban simulation, announced today at the URISA 2001 Annual Conference and Exposition the delivery of an urban simulation application to the City of Las Vegas. MultiGen-Paradigm's Urban Simulation Services Group developed a customized realtime 3D model of the Centennial Center. The model represents a proposed commercial center that is to become the gateway to the city's new downtown. The 3D database covers an area of 160 acres and was created from site plans, elevation data, digital photographs and GIS data. The City of Las Vegas used the model to visualize the final buildout, finalize the details of the development area, obtain consensus with city planning officials and educate the public. MultiGen-Paradigm's Urban Simulation Services Group constructed the model using its core visual simulation tools: SiteBuilder 3D, MultiGen Creator, and Vega SiteBuilder 3D, an extension for ESRI's ArcView® GIS, was used to convert the city's 2D digital map data and aerial photographs into 3D elements such as roads, sidewalks, buildings and landscaping. MultiGen Creator, a realtime 3D modeling software package, was then used along with architectural renderings and site plan drawings to enhance the model and create greater scene detail. Finally, Vega, a realtime 3D simulation toolkit for building fully interactive 3D visualization applications, provided a custom interface to view and interact with the model. "Because Las Vegas has experienced such a high rate of growth over the last few years, we knew that tapping into MultiGen-Paradigm's 3D visualization technologies would be crucial to our city planning efforts," said Mike Gritz, GIS analyst for the City of Las Vegas. "MultiGen-Paradigm's software, training and professional services have given us a new way to experience the past, present and future of Las Vegas' urban development."
"Realtime 3D visualization of urban projects offers the most cost-effective method of analyzing proposals and building consensus," said Tom Dowgiallo, program manager for MultiGen-Paradigm's Urban Simulation Services Group. "The City of Las Vegas needed the fastest route to visualizing and finding consensus on this project and we were able to provide them with that capability."
In addition to designing the Centennial Center database, MultiGen-Paradigm trained City of Las Vegas engineers on the use of their SiteBuilder 3D, MultiGen Creator and Vega software products, giving the city the opportunity to use the tools for future development and analysis projects.
