Commercial-Off-The-Shelf Components Provide Cost-Effective, Scalable Solution San Jose, Calif. - October 18, 2004 - MultiGen-Paradigm, Inc., a leading provider of realtime 3D visual simulation software solutions, was chosen by iMT Incorporated to provide the modeling and visualization software for the visual component for iMT's 3-D Dome; a semi-portable, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) solution for virtual design review. The display environment was built for and is being used to support the rapid development of Future Combat Systems (FCS) vehicles and vehicle subsystems. iMT's 3-D Dome provides users with the ability to visualize computer aided design (CAD) models in a fully immersive and interactive 3-D virtual environment without the need for costly prototypes and models. "Engineers, soldiers, and customers can literally sit in the commander's chair of the next generation armored vehicle prior to bending the first piece of metal. A capability that promises to significantly reduce development timelines and cost while improving quality." The semi-portable system supports 360 degree stereo viewing, an integrated tracking system for dynamic model visualization, and a networking capability for multi-site collaborative engineering. The semi-portable system is scalable to meet physical size and performance requirements. The system is compatible with a wide range of engineering and modeling design formats including Pro-Engineer, AutoCAD, Lightwave, and Maya. Virtual design review reduces risk, speeds design and development and increases design quality by allowing engineers and users to effectively collaborate on new designs.
