MultiGen-Paradigm, Inc. Announces Urban Simulation Contract With City of Vallejo

SAN JOSE, Calif.October 11, 1999 – MultiGen-Paradigm, Inc. today announced at the League of California Cities Exposition in San Jose, the award of a new contract by the City of Vallejo, Calif. to construct a realtime 3D model for the city’s Downtown Waterfront Development Project.

MultiGen-Paradigm will utilize their core simulation tools MultiGen Creator™ , a 3D modeler, and Vega™ , a realtime simulation development environment, to build the model. With its state-of-the-art technology, MultiGen-Paradigm will create growth scenarios of the waterfront area enabling Vallejo city officials and citizens to visualize and evaluate proposed developments in realtime.

The model will comprise approximately four acres of land that front the Napa River and will include redevelopment options such as retail shops, a hotel, a 22-screen multiplex movie theatre, a health club, extensive new landscaping and street extensions to tie the city center to the waterfront.

"The City of Vallejo is looking forward to working with MultiGen-Paradigm," said Vallejo Mayor Gloria Exline. "The computer simulation they will develop for us will be a useful tool to help our citizens understand different development scenarios for the waterfront before we even begin construction."

To construct the 3D models, MultiGen-Paradigm will use aerial and digital photographs, GIS data, architectural renderings and site plans as source data. In addition, the company will utilize its model library of virtual elements such as people, landscape and street furniture to add realism to the scene.

Embedded in the simulation application will be "switches" that allow users to view redevelopment alternatives by choosing one of several keyboard buttons. This level of interactivity will provide immediate visual feedback on important elements such as corridors, street scale and impact on surrounding developments.

"As MultiGen-Paradigm continues to sign contracts with communities across the country, we validate our entry into this market by providing planning alternatives to improve the standard of living for all citizens," said Dave Rolston, president and CEO, MultiGen-Paradigm. "The significant impact of our realtime solutions for these projects is remarkable."

Vallejo, Calif., located in the northeast portion of the San Francisco Bay, was the site of the state capital in the 1850's and later grew into an important shipping and naval center. Today, Vallejo's past is very much a part of its present. Mare Island Naval Shipyard, established in Vallejo in 1854, was the West Coast's first shipyard. Mare Island remains an important community asset for economic development opportunities despite its closure by the Navy in 1996 and now has over 40 new businesses located on the island since the base closure. The Waterfront Master Plan area is located directly across the Napa River from Mare Island and is planned to be the social and cultural center of the community. Beautifully restored Victorian homes and business fronts are some of the most interesting examples of architecture in the Bay Area.

MultiGen-Paradigm, Inc., which has its headquarters in San Jose, CA, is a world leader in visual and audio simulation, sensor and IR solutions, dome-based simulation, and virtual reality products for Silicon Graphics IRIX and Windows NT workstations.
