FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MULTIGEN-PARADIGM SHIPS SITEBUILDER 3D Lille, France -April 24, 2001 - MultiGen-Paradigm, the leading developer of real-time 3D solutions, announced today at the International Training and Education Conference & Exhibition (ITEC), the shipment of its newest software tool, SiteBuilder 3D. SiteBuilder 3D is an extension to ESRI's popular ArcView® GIS desktop mapping program and provides users with a solution to quickly and easily visualize 2D GIS data in 3D. With the availability of this new extension, ArcView users will be able to seamlessly transform 2D map data into realistic, fully interactive 3D scenes. "The ability to leverage vast amounts of existing 2D GIS data and transform that information into meaningful and correlated 3D scenes truly takes GIS to the next level," said Jon Zucker, SiteBuilder 3D Product Manager and urban simulation and GIS market manager for MultiGen-Paradigm. "What used to take hours and sometimes days to create can now be done in minutes with very compelling visual results.SiteBuilder 3D is an ideal compliment to ArcView for military mission planning, urban planning and design, public safety and terrain visualization applications." SiteBuilder 3D easily creates 3D terrain models directly from common elevation data sources including digital elevation models and contour maps. The terrain-skins can then be draped with either an active map or high-resolution aerial or satellite imagery. Utilizing a library of photo-realistic 3D models and textures, SiteBuilder 3D rapidly transforms 2D map symbols into 3D features; no advanced 3D modeling or rendering experience is required. Users can then virtually fly, walk and drive through their 3D scene by using the mouse as a pointing device, allowing multiple focal points from any angle or perspective. Optional features such as clouds, fog and time of day can be easily added to the scene, further increasing its realistic value. "With SiteBuilder 3D, viewing a 3D scene side-by-side with a 2D map delivers a powerful tool for mission planning applications, greatly extending the power for ArcView users within the defense and intelligence communities," said David Swann, Defense Market Manager at ESRI. "SiteBuilder 3D is also a natural extension for ArcView GIS users that desire a 3D display that represents the real world with greater accuracy. Instead of using symbolic feature representations, SiteBuilder 3D allows users to render fully textured buildings, trees and high resolution ground imagery creating a more realistic-looking environment." The technology behind SiteBuilder 3D is the same that is used today in high-end flight simulators, driving simulators and realtime gaming applications benefiting from MultiGen-Paradigm's 15 years of experience delivering realtime 3D products and services. MultiGen-Paradigm's current involvement in the GIS marketplace ties the GIS and realtime visualization worlds together while the new SiteBuilder 3D allows users to access 3D data quicker and easier than ever before. "I have found that with other Geospatial viewing tools, the GIS and 3D visualization data coming out of SOCET SET must be converted into several formats. Even then it must still be viewed in separate applications which is quite inefficient," said SiteBuilder 3D beta user Mark Oldknow, marketing engineer for BAE's SOCET SET. "SiteBuilder 3D is the perfect tool to view GIS and 3D visualization data together giving our customers the best of both worlds. For military users looking for a solution that enables rapid 3D scene generation from GIS data, SiteBuilder 3D is the best tool to use. Pricing and Availability MultiGen-Paradigm will be accepting orders for SiteBuilder 3D at ITEC. The product will be available for shipping by May 15, 2001 priced at $1,995.
