Boston Dynamics Ports DI-Guy and PeopleShop To Run on Multigen-Paradigm's Vega Prime

CAMBRIDGE, MA - (April 22, 2002) - Boston Dynamics announced today that it is porting its industry-leading human simulation software to run on MultiGen-Paradigm's new Vega Prime™ toolkit for real-time 3D application development. By making DI-Guy™ and PeopleShop™ operable with Vega Prime, Boston Dynamics and MultiGen-Paradigm continue to provide the visual-simulation marketplace with integrated tools for building real-time applications that feature realistic people and vehicles.

"MultiGen-Paradigm has consistently produced best-of-breed tools for high performance real-time visualization, and we expect Vega Prime to continue that tradition," said Marc Raibert, president of Boston Dynamics. "The availability of DI-Guy and PeopleShop in Vega Prime will ensure that users have the tools they need to rapidly populate Vega Prime applications with lifelike human characters."

"MultiGen-Paradigm is pleased to extend this relationship with Boston Dynamics that started more than five years ago," says Chris Hawkins, vice president of sales and marketing, MultiGen-Paradigm. "Boston Dynamics' expertise in adding human characters to applications without the need for complex inverse kinematic programming will be a tremendous benefit to our customers. Vega Prime's plug-in architecture was specifically developed to easily add powerful tools like DI-Guy and PeopleShop that provide enhanced functionality to meet the particular requirements of our users' 3D simulations."

DI-Guy and PeopleShop are used by organizations worldwide, including all branches of the US military, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, DaimlerChrysler, ICT, Hitachi, and others. The products include everything users need to add lifelike people to their realtime simulations, including an optimized run-time motion engine, an extensive library of human motion data, textured human models with multiple levels of detail, and the DI-Guy API-the de facto industry standard application programming interface. PeopleShop provides a graphical user interface to DI-Guy so subject-matter experts and training specialists can quickly build training scenarios without writing code.

About Boston Dynamics
Boston Dynamics is a leading provider of dynamic human simulation products and services. Its DI-Guy™ and PeopleShop™ software products are used by organizations worldwide for training and visualization applications. These products allow users to create real-time scenarios featuring lifelike human characters that move realistically, respond to simple high-level commands, and move as directed.

Boston Dynamics was formed in 1992 as a spinoff from the Massachusetts Intstitute of Technology. There the company's founders developed advanced robotic systems that later became the foundation for the company's dynamic and physics-based simulation products.
