International Training and Education Conference (ITEC) - London, England - April 20, 2004 - Mothership Technology, the developers of this new product, today announced IGES Transporter™ for MultiGen Creator™, a plug-in to Creator, MultiGen-Paradigm's comprehensive toolset that enables rapid generation of optimized object models, high-fidelity site-level terrain and synthetic environments for use in realtime 3D visual simulation, urban simulation and general visualization applications. IGES Transporter will provide tools that allow modelers to quickly and efficiently model directly from CAD and animation-package data. MultiGen-Paradigm will be demonstrating this new functionality in its ITEC booth #526. The IGES Transporter, developed by Mothership Technology, allows sophisticated curved surface models that use NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline) surfaces to be imported directly into MultiGen-Paradigm's MultiGen Creator. NURBS models, traditionally only used in high-end computer-aided design and manufacturing and commercial animation packages are being used more and more in modeling and simulation due to the flexibility they offer and the ability to describe complex shapes effectively and accurately. The NURBS Transporter module enables files in IGES 5.3 format to be brought into Creator for conversion to realtime-ready polygons and optimized into industry-standard OpenFlight files. The degree of tessellation of the models is under the user's direct control, and the resulting polygon mesh can then be easily manipulated, restructured, and processed as part of the Creator scene. The plug-in also contains polygon reduction technology licensed from Systems in Motion, makers of Rational Reducer. These technologies combine, in one product, the most flexible single source available to take NURBS models to become realtime-ready content. Whether control over initial surface-to-polygon tessellation, or polygon-to-polygon reduction, Creator users have fast, easy, and close control about re-purposing IGES models for realtime 3D visual simulation applications with this new product.
