FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For More Information, contact: Stephanie Groswirt MultiGen-Paradigm, Inc. Announces New Product Modules Vega Immersive and Vega Non-Linear Distortion Correction San Jose, Calif., April 12, 1999- MultiGen-Paradigm, Inc. announced the introduction of two new optional product modules, Vega Immersive and Vega Non-Linear Distortion Correction (NLDC) today at the ITEC trade show being held in The Hague, Netherlands. Both modules will be available for use with Vega 3.4 for IRIX®. Shipment of these modules is expected in late Q2. The Vega Immersive module enables the user to display any Vega applicastion within a virtual immersive environment such as a CAVE® or on Pyramid Systems' Immersadesk. Vega Immersive also provides configuration and runtime support for rear-projected head-tracked display environments. Moreover, Vega Immersive allows administrators to collect all system-specific information in a single configuration file to be accessed by users. Conversion from a classic Vega application to one running in an immersive display system is now as easy as supplying a pre-defined configuration file. The Vega Immersive configuration system will also run the same application in several different environments by simply changing the display configuration file. "We have seen great interest from our customers in using immersive environments to display simulation applications," said Jay Kidd, vice president of marketing for MultiGen-Paradigm. "Vega offers a rich set of features for building these applications, and now it is a snap to configure Vega applications to run in a rear-projected environment with a head tracker." Runtime aspects of the Vega Immersive module include perspective correction based on the user's head position and tracker calibration. All runtime computation is optimized to have the least impact on application performance. The Vega Non-Linear Distortion Correction module (NLDC) provides static or dynamic distortion correction for non-flat display surfaces, such as domes, to any Vega application. NLDC takes into account the projection surface and the location and parameters of one or more projectors. Through the LynX graphical user interface, the user can create a software representation of the projection surface and establish the locations of the projector(s) and eye point within the dome. The NLDC Alignment Tool provides the capability to correct for geometric distortions in a projector image. "Warping the output of a visual simulation application to fit a particular screen geometry is a difficult and thankless task," said Jay Kidd, vice president of marketing for MultiGen-Paradigm. "Vega NLDC makes this process simple and will greatly simplify the use of a wide range of low cost domes and large screen displays."
